Testimonials

I am an actor, singer, and a prospective school teacher. After suffering a vocal cord haemorrhage, I lost much of my range, flexibility and vocal stamina. Working with Gwyneth helped me regain my vocal abilities and improved my confidence to speak and sing in public once again! Sessions with Gwyneth were friendly and tailored to my specific needs, and I felt safe under her attentive care and patience. Gwyneth also meticulously follows up each consultation with emails to check on my vocal hygiene, and also records our sessions for future reference. I just finished performing in a musical theatre production as well as an a cappella concert with a bright, clear and healthy sound throughout, and didn’t feel any vocal fatigue after my shows! Thank you Gwyneth for helping me regain my voice and confidence!

Gwyneth is approachable and engaging, which helped to make the learning process during the Camperdown programme an enjoyable yet fruitful one. The programme is progressive and eventually includes hands-on like phone calls and making queries in shopping mall. Furthermore, Gwyneth patiently guided me to understand the techniques on my own, thus making the results of the programme a more enduring one. Overall, I feel more in control of my speech without having to substitute words like I used to, thanks to her!”

Gwyneth is an excellent speech therapist, her patient and encouraging persona is very helpful in aiding me to develop the right speech techniques to overcome my speech dysfluencies. Due to the COVID-19 situation, most of my speech therapy sessions with Gwyneth is via Skype and ZOOM, but there is no slack in the intensity. Over the Internet, Gwyneth helped me to correct my speech patterns and maintain the rigour in applying speech techniques through the weekly sessions. In the later segment of the therapy, Gwyneth helped me to transfer what I have learnt into my daily life: conversations with family, friends, strangers and also public speaking. Thank you, Gwyneth!

With much gratitude,
Aaron Cheng

It was a pleasure to work with Aaron on his speech. Aaron had stuttering and was treated with speech restructuring (Camperdown Program). This means that he had to learn a new way of speaking to help him coordinate and control his speech better. Due to the Covid-19 situation, Aaron had most of his therapy sessions via Telepractice with ZOOM/SKYPE as a platform. He had about 18 weekly sessions to treat the stuttering. In addition to being consistent in his weekly attendance, Aaron was very diligent and disciplined in his speech practice. He was very determined to use his new speech pattern in his day to day situations e.g. with his family and at work meetings. Well done Aaron!

The use of Telepractice for the treatment of stuttering has been well researched. There are randomised controlled trials supporting the effectiveness of treating stuttering with the Lidcombe Program (pre-schoolers) and the Camperdown Program (adolescents and adults). Treating stuttering via Telepractice can be just as effective as treatment at the clinic. Some advantages include: less travel time, learning in a familiar and comfortable environment, ease of generalising the new speech pattern into real daily situations.

In my experience with Telepractice since 2014, it may not be suitable for everyone. The strengths and potential limitations of Telepractice have to be discussed with each patient/caregiver. Some factors that I may consider are: maturity and nature of the school-aged child/teenager/adolescent, motivation levels, patient needs, parent- child dynamics and language barriers

Therapy sessions with Gwyneth are always purposeful, positive and encouraging.

Gwyneth’s expertise and professionalism makes me feel safe and at ease. Kind and competent, she has been supportive and attentive to the needs of my changing voice. Her explanations are clear and she demonstrates exercises so that I have no problem following through at home.

Gwyneth’s committment shines through as her therapy sessions are always well-planned and enjoyable. She is caring and sensitive, making sessions something to look forward to! With consistent practice and guidance for 2 months, my voice has changed significantly for the better. I am grateful to have her as my therapist.

– Denise

Denise was 18 years old when she first came for voice therapy. She had an unusual high pitched voice quality with a limited speaking and weaker lower range. Puberphonia, even though more common in males, can occur in females too. It is characterised by a habitual and continuous use of the pre-adolescent, high pitched voice of a child even after puberty.  This condition is also known as mutational falsetto or functional falsetto. Denise had weekly sessions for 2 months where we worked on reducing tension sites and finding her lower range while maintaining resonance. Once we found her physiological lower pitch, we worked on vocal stamina and habituating her speaking voice. Denise was very hardworking and consistent with her daily voice practice. Once she found her full range of the speaking voice, Denise expressed an interest in exploring singing. I referred Denise to an experienced singing teacher. It was a pleasure to maintain open communication with her singing teacher to discuss voicing patterns noticed in both Denise’s singing and speaking voice.  This overlap between voice therapy and singing lessons had a synergetic effect on stabilising Denise’s modal range for both singing and speaking 🙂

Gwyneth is professional, knowledgeable in her area of expertise, authentic and sincere. In the last eight months, she has helped Nicky so much with her disfluency. She taught Nicky techniques to overcome her speech challenges and has also been a great source of encouragement in positively guiding Nicky. We saw results and improvement just after two sessions.

We are so delighted that Nicky is now able to express herself fluently and has gained much confidence in her interaction with family and friends. Apart from Gwyneth’s expertise, we are especially thankful too for the level of care she has shown Nicky. Gwyneth has been a gem and we are so glad to be working with her.

Jacqueline (Nicky’s mum)

Nicole was treated with the Camperdown Program for stuttering.  There are 4 stages in the Camperdown program which aims to increase the control of her speech.  Nicole did stage 2 in an intensive format and stage 3 & 4 through tele practice via Zoom (due to Covid).  Her parents were very supportive of her throughout the therapy.  She was given the option to come back for face-to-face sessions but they found Zoom to be just as effective.

Dear Ms Lee,

Thank you very much for helping me with my voice problem. Now I know what’s my voice problem, I don’t need to panic or even be over anxious when my voice goes into spasm. I will just stop for a little while and then continue speaking. I realise that my voice spasm is still there. I must learn to speak with gentleness. Telegraphic [speech] is a help too. The exercises you gave help me to minimise my spasm. It was most interesting to learn something from you regarding my voice. There’s always so much to learn in life.
Thank you very  much for your patience and understanding with my voice problem, Ms Lee. I look forward to seeing you again on [xxx] October.
With best wishes for the professional job that you are doing. Samuel [her singing teacher] says you are very hard to come by. He must be right.
With sincere regards,
Gloria G
Gloria was diagnosed with vocal tremor which was interfering with her ability to communicate effectively at work.  Telegraphic speech was a technique I came across when attending a voice conference.  This technique worked out well to help Gloria reduce her vocal tremor.

Gwyneth saved my voice! I hurt my voice at a singing class and perhaps I didn’t realise how many bad habits I had vocally until I had injured myself and went to her to seek help. She’s very patient and helped me learn how to better use my voice, heal my voice and teach me about sustaining my voice because I have a high vocal load as a performer and teacher. I am so grateful for the healing that has come with her and have been able to use the tools she’s given me for my shows, classes, voiceovers and work. She really wants the best for you and your voice and I have benefitted greatly from working with her.
– Shanice

Shanice is a professional stage performer/host and dance teacher. She was referred to me by her singing teacher. Her singing teacher was quick to identify that Shanice was experiencing changes in her voice. When Shanice first saw me, her voice had breaks and jitter. The pain and vocal tension that she experienced was brought about by a combination of having a serious upper respiratory tract infection and a continued vocal demand in her teaching and performances.

Shanice’s vocal tension was brought on by her speaking roles more than her singing. (This is a fairly common scenario among singer/performers)  Unfortunately, singing tipped the balance and that caused her to lose confidence in singing.

She saw an ENT and her stroboscopic examination cleared her of any vocal pathology.

We worked on her speaking and acting voice when taking on various animated roles. With her awareness of her voice type and what she could do healthily, the pain gradually subsided. Thank you for sharing insights into the acting/performing world. It was a nice collaboration between therapist and performer. With this awareness, I encouraged her to return to singing and build her confidence again.

I have been stuttering for decades. When I met Gwyneth a year ago, I was exhibiting disfluency especially in terms of blockages which had really affected my confidence and created much anxiety throughout my life. I had low expectations as my experiences with speech therapy through my childhood years all the way through adulthood were not ideal; thankfully my experience has been incredibly positive.

Gwyneth has guided me through every week of therapy with great expertise and deep sincerity; I have always felt challenged but never once felt disappointment as she has created a tailor-made program for me through a thoughtful understanding of my speech characteristics; teaching me new methods every week to help me improve my vocal coordination.

A year down the road, I have made great leaps in overcoming my stuttering and can hear how much my speech patterns have evolved to improve my fluency. I am very fortunate to have met Gwyneth and look forward to continuing my journey.

Aaron C

Aaron was diagnosed with mild stuttering but had some anxiety over specific speaking situations where the stutters would become more severe.  Apart from using the Camperdown speech restructuring program, Gwyneth had to incorporate some elements of voice therapy to enable Aaron to overcome the blockages.  Aaron’s treatment was done primarily online.

He was very diligent in his practice and honed his ability to self-monitor and control his speech.  He is continuing to work through his speech and is aware of setting his own speech goals in these challenging situations.  His confidence continues to grow.

I started attending speech therapy treatment since I was 15 years old. I have been maintaining my fluent speech with occasional follow up reviews with Gwyn for close to 10 years now. Gwyn’s sessions are relevant, meaningful and have helped me become more self-sufficient in managing my stuttering outside the clinic.

Besides drills and practices to build proficiency in the speech technique, the sessions also deal with other aspects of managing stuttering such as developing good speech habits, finding our personal stutter “triggers”, psychological preparation before a speech etc. We also regularly devise practical action plans together to tackle difficult speech situations, and discuss speech practices customized to handle each situation.

Conducted in an interactive manner, the sessions aim to help each patient become “his/her own therapist” by developing a mental toolkit that he/she can utilize while managing stuttering.

Gwyn is very patient and approachable; going back for follow-ups feels very much like visiting an old friend to discuss how life has progressed over the past few months and how well I have lived with stuttering during the period.

Besides being more sociable and confident under many situations, the sessions have made me become, more importantly, a happier person with a stronger sense of control over something I previously thought I was never going to overcome.

Gwyneth is my speech therapist for almost one year. Her motherly personality makes her approachable to everyone. She is committed and patient in guiding me to master the speech techniques so that I can speak fluently to close families, friends and even strangers. Thank you Gwyneth!

I am very thankful to have Gwyneth as my therapist. Besides having a cheerful disposition that never fails to put her patients at ease. She is also very meticulous and has systematic plans for each session, regardless of the stage of the Camperdown program I was at. I was able to use the technique with more confidence, and despite having a few setbacks in transfer tasks (e.g. ordering food), she was able to problem solve with me intensively and never hesitated to go back to basics at times.

Under her guidance, I have gained greater control of my speech and am able to speak more fluently across different situations.

I would heartily recommend Gwyneth to anyone who stutters and wants to establish control over their speech. You won’t regret it! 🙂

I had always struggled with stuttering. I went through a few speech therapy techniques in my childhood but somehow could never find something that worked. I was sceptical about therapy initially. However, my perception changed after my first session with Gwyneth. I could feel the difference when applying the techniques taught through the Camperdown program and knew I had found control in my speech.

I couldn’t have asked for a better speech therapist than Gwyneth. She was extremely patient with me and made speech therapy a lot fun. Hearing my-self speak uninterruptedly with a fluent speech was something that I could have never imagined but Gwyneth made it possible for me.

I highly recommend Gwyneth Lee as a speech therapist. Our son had severe stuttering at an older age that is more complex to treat. A previous speech therapist had failed to make any difference with him, but with Gwyneth his results were dramatic and almost miraculously quick. Gwyneth goes above and beyond to help her clients. She is extremely knowledgeable and deeply caring.  We feel blessed that we found her.
– Emily (Elijah’s Mother)

Elijah (10 years old) was diagnosed with severe stuttering marked by effortful blocks (stuck words) and prolongations (stretching of sounds).  His severity was 7 on a a scale of 0-9 (0 no stuttering, 9 extreme stuttering).  He achieved fluent speech with mum’s support and a tailored treatment program.  Elijah was able to achieve fluent speech with severity 0 within 3 sessions.  He is now on periodic follow-up and has not shown signs of relapse.  He is very happy with his speech and has the confidence to speak on stage.

Our son had a moderately severe stutter that was getting increasingly worse. We were very worried and did a lot of research for the best stuttering therapists available. We were eventually referred to Gwyn by another speech therapist and haven’t looked back since. Not only is Gwyn extremely experienced and knowledgeable in treating stuttering, she is gentle, patient and always supportive. Although the Lidcombe program can be a lot of work for parents at times, it is a fun and positive approach to treating stuttering. We like that it focuses on making the child feel good. Our son adores Gwyn and always looks forward to our fun sessions with her. He is now down to very little to no stuttering and we are very grateful for her expertise and support.

It was a pleasure treating Mr and Mrs Lew’s daughter.  This was a case where the child presented very differently in clinic (exceptionally quiet) and at home (talkative).  We carried out the Lidcombe program and worked closely with Mum to learn and apply the principles of the treatment.  The treatment was successful due to the close parental involvement, which is a key ingredient of any successful therapy.
We found our girl to have moderate stutter when she was turning four. We were so worried at that time and searched through internet to find a good and experienced speech therapist. We decided to go to Gwyneth after we visited her website and the good comments about her.
Gwyneth monitored our daughter’s stutters closely and she was very supportive whenever we had any queries. She is very experienced, gentle and patient towards our girl. Our daughter was initially very shy to speak during the treatment session but now she can communicate very well with Gwyneth. She enjoys and looks forward to every treatment session with Gwyneth.
Our girl now speaks fluently. We are very grateful to Gwyneth. Million thanks to Gwyneth!
Mr & Mrs Lew

Gwyneth is god-sent! Our little one was 4 when she started her speech therapy, and she took an instant liking to Gwyneth. Gwyneth consistently put in real effort for each and every session, personalizing the games and activities for the specific sound errors my daughter was making.

My daughter enjoyed each session thoroughly and always looked forward to seeing her favourite “Ms Gwyneth”. She had such a positive association with the therapy and she was never reluctant to attend.

As a parent, I was so pleased to see frequent real progress. It was wonderful to watch my daughter grow in confidence and I can honestly attribute this to the hard work that Gwyneth puts into each session.

It was just before his 3rd birthday that Miller first started showing signs of stuttering, repetition and blocking. Most disheartening were the incidences of jaw locking. At first I thought it was just a childhood phase but as his symptoms worsened I realised he needed professional help.
Miller progressed through the Lidcombe program well. The sessions at home required a lot of discipline on our part but Miller nearly always enjoyed the extra attention through the reading and play-based activities. I’m very pleased to report he is now free of any speech problems.
Gwyneth was awesome from beginning to end. Experienced, patient, always clear with feedback and instructions. Miller felt at ease and always loved delving into Singapore’s best-stocked toy cupboard.

Bryan started to show signs of severe stuttering when he was three years old. He was blocking, repeating and stretching his words. I was having the hope that the stuttering would disappear on its own and decided to wait and observe.

However, my wish didn’t come true. The stuttering persisted when he turned four. There were ‘good days’ when the stuttering was mild, but it was always followed by those ‘bad days’ when he struggled with every single word that he said.

As his mummy, it was heart breaking seeing him want to express himself so much but was unable to. Bryan also showed frustration. He would pant and jump to force words out. He would also give up in between his words. This was the turning point and I realized Bryan needed help.

I googled online trying to look for some reputable and experienced Speech Therapists. Thank God I found “A Million Things to Say” and Gwyneth who has more than 14 years of experience in this field. After the first assessment session with her, I knew she was the one that I could fully trust.

A few months into therapy with Gwyneth, Bryan showed significant improvement in his speech. The Lidcombe program worked well for him. Today Bryan is able to talk fluently with little or no stuttering. The outcome is much better than I expected. I would strongly recommend Gwyneth to all the parents whose kids suffer from stuttering. Start treatment early!

– Bryan’s Mummy

My boy was 5 when I noticed him not speaking clearly.  At first we thought it is out of excitement he rushes off.  One of my friends referred me to consult Gwyneth.  When I went to meet her I was shocked to know that he has got stuttering and there are various types in stutters like repetitions, blocks, pauses etc
Gwyneth is a well experienced and knowledgeable speech therapist.  She was gentle and kind with kids which made my son feel at ease.  Her sessions included activities and games which my son used to look forward to.
Gwyneth was very friendly in the sessions.  She guided me very well how to do sessions at home and followed up regularly.  I was really happy to see the progress in my son gradually.  Now 6 months later my son is able to speak clearly without any stutters and with more confidence.  All thanks to Gwyneth, without her I wouldn’t even have realised about my son’s actual problem.

Mother of “Avik” (Name changed)

When I first reached out to Gwyneth in August 2018, as a concerned mother who couldn’t come to the terms that her first born is not able to even finish a small sentence without blocking and repeating, I was worried that he will not be able to talk fluently ever. But it took only one meeting with Gwyneth which made me realize, it’s nothing that my son can’t overcome. Acceptance over powered denial and negativity turned into positivity. With Gwyneth’s help my son (10 years old) is now able to talk confidently in mere 6 months with a very few repetitions applying the techniques taught by this great lady. She guided both myself and my son throughout and emphasized on how important is parents involvement along with the therapy. Ibrahim and I are grateful for all your help and guidance

Mariam, mother of Ibrahim

Emmet was 3 yrs coming to 4 when i decided to have him assessed for stuttering. I was on the fence for a while since 2 yrs old, due to the fact that he is still young and he might outgrow it, but I followed my gut feeling as I can see something is not right compared to his peers. Knowing how to talk confidently is important, So I decided not to wait any longer. Approaching Gwyneth is so easy. I left her a message and she called back, answering every question I have with no obligation. We decided to start after the assessment, as she mentioned with my child’s temperament, the program is suitable. Emmet love coming for sessions, and I have seen great improvement. Throughout the journey she has taught me how to manage his stutters. He is stable now after 8 months without much stutters, but will continue to monitor closely and I definitely know I have Gwyneth behind my back if I need help again. Thank you so much, forever grateful for your guidance.

After attending this speech therapy, I felt that my confidence had grown a lot as last time, I had always been scared to present on stage or talk to a big crowd. However, when Ms Gwyneth became my Speech Therapist, I learnt how to control my speech so I would not stutter as much. Not only is Ms Gwyneth’s way of teaching effective, her lessons are also entertaining as after I had completed a few tasks, we would usually play a game, whether it be a card game or a board game. Hence, thanks to her coaching, I have grown a lot braver than I used to be and dared to speak up more in front of my class and school. I would always look forward to attending my therapy sessions.

Vera was first assessed in November 2017 when she was 2.5 years old. We held off treatment as we felt she was slightly young. Meanwhile, her father was vigilant in monitoring her speech progress and reporting it to me on a monthly basis. Vera’s stuttering was sporadic in nature. After monitoring for a year, we decided it was the best time to start treatment.

As our first child, we didn’t quite know what to expect when Vera first exhibited symptoms of stuttering at the age of 3 (both audio and visual cues). We weren’t sure if it was merely a passing phase as part of speech development or something more deep rooted. We decided to have her assessed with a speech therapist, after the occurences started to increase and in greater severity too, which caused much distress to us. After doing research on available options, we settled on Gwyneth, based on her experience particularly with children and being a mother of two young ones herself.

Vera is typically shy with strangers but she took to Gwyneth easily. Sessions always went very smoothly, with both Vera and us learning along the way. She always looks forward to sessions with Gwyneth. In fact, as we progressed further into the program and had more spaced out sessions, Vera often lamented that she was seeing less of ‘Teacher Gwyneth’. Progress certainly didn’t happen overnight; we already had our expectations set from the get go and that as parents, we do need to be very patient and involved too in the therapy, to gain optimal outcome for the child. Nonetheless, we are both surprised and elated that within the short span of a few months, it was clear there was an increasing significant improvement in Vera’s speech.

Throughout the engagement, Gwyneth has always been very approachable and patient with our concerns and queries. She is supportive and provides encouragement, particularly in the times of recurrences and updates the ‘game plan’ accordingly. It’s obvious she genuinely cares for Vera and we have always felt assured that Vera would get better under Gwyneth’s guidance. We’re proud and immensely grateful to Gwyneth that as of today, Vera is able to speak confidently with almost non-detectable stuttering.

A good window to treat stuttering is in its preschool years. Starting at too young an age (<4yrs) can drag treatment time out as the child may not be mature enough. But the decision to start treatment for Elias was based on the severity of stuttering and the distress it was causing to both parent and child.
The Lidcombe program takes a behavioural approach to treat stuttering. The treatment steers and shapes stuttering towards fluent speech. Parents learn to structure activities and their interaction such that the child practices more fluent speech in daily doses. Through treatment and conditioning of fluent speech, the structuring can gradually lessen as the child becomes more fluent.
Parent involvement in stuttering treatment of a preschooler is crucial. Sarah, Elias’s mother, took on feedback and supported Elias very well throughout the program.
I stumbled upon Gwyneth after searching online for a speech therapist to help with my son’s stuttering. I can’t actually put it into words how lucky we are to have found her.
On our first meeting, I broke down. Watching my outgoing and chatty 3 year old boy turn into a shell of his former self was completely heart breaking. Elias had stopped conversing as he had lost his confidence due to severe stuttering.
Enter Gwyneth! Warm and articulate, she helped him by devising a treatment plan using evidence based practise. Being a mom herself, Gwyneth is extremely patient and understanding with Elias. Sessions were always fun and he always looked forward to seeing her.
As for me, it felt like I had made a new friend. Gwyneth is warm with a great sense of humour. She supported me at all stages throughout the treatment plan, providing detailed guidance on how to support my son’s development between sessions.
Elias is now an effective communicator thanks to Gwyneth. I can’t recommend her enough. Our family will always remember her fondly.
Sarah (Elias’  mother)

My daughter, Layla, was diagnosed with nodules on her voice chords and was referred to Ms Gwyneth for voice therapy. We had no idea what to expect but Gwyneth was so encouraging and supportive.

Gwyneth has been extremely positive and professional. Layla looked forward to each session because it was always fun and engaging. Her voice improved steadily and the techniques and exercises introduced to us were easy to apply in our daily routine.

It’s been a few months since our last session and Layla’s voice has continued to improve. We are so thankful to have met Gwyneth.

Our son started stuttering at the age of 2. It is a difficult/worrisome time for parents as we didn’t know what to do and also can see the difficulty it creates for our son. We did seek a couple different opinions and tried a treatment but over the course of 2.5 year we didn’t have a lot of progress and more importantly Our son was demotivated to continue treatment. After a period of break – due to our sons de-motivation, things were going worse and we did restart the search. We did contact Gwyneth and she had availability to start seeing our son. First of all – from day 1 – she had excellent connect with our son. Despite different specialists use/follow same methodology- the main difference is with the person herself/himself. We had an intensive effort together and had meaningful progress over the course of 2+ years where today we are at a point our son overcame a lot of obstacles. One great point to highlight the connect between Gwyneth and our son is that – he actually love to see Gwyneth more frequently but as he improved now it is not needed:) As a parent – I hope you can have a chance to collaborate with Gwyneth in this journey – that requires resilience and patience. We are very grateful for all help / support Gwyneth gave us over the course of years.

*Alex* was a 5 year old boy, who came to me for the treatment of stuttering after undergoing the Lidcombe program for stuttering with another therapist for 2 yrs. The challenge with someone who has had previous treatment is always to figure out what was done and what worked (and didn’t) for both parent and child.

When we first met, he presented as an intelligent and competitive boy who set high expectations of himself. He was definitely aware and sensitive towards his disfluencies. He did not like receiving any positive feedback about his speech and his first language was not English.

We had to work around building trust and rapport between therapist and child. Teaming up with the parent (in this case his mother) was critical for the child. His mother knew what didn’t work out from the previous therapist.  Eg can you say ‘truck’ smoothly? The child would shut down as he knew that if he tried again, the chance of him stuttering would be high. The child did not like explicit praise given to his speech.

This child underwent the Lidcombe program again with a combination of a short period of syllable timed speech. We worked towards conditioning his fluency and desensitizing him to praise and correction for fluent/non fluent speech. This had to be skillfully and gradually done by taking in feedback from his mother each week, close observations of the child’s reaction to verbal contingencies in clinic and careful selection of motivating tasks to bring out more fluent speech.

This really emphasizes the importance of 1) trust and rapport building between child and therapist. 2) collaboration between parents and therapist. 3) perseverance from his mother in carrying out daily treatment for the child and support from his father. 4) the importance of adapting a program to suit each child within a evidenced based framework ie Lidcombe Program.

Gwyneth treated my girl’s stutter issue few years back. We were very satisfied with her skill  in speech therapy. Hence when we noticed my boy’s articulation issue last year, Gwyneth has been my first choice of speech therapist without second thought. Due to covid pandemic, the therapy sessions had been hold through zoom. It was not easy to sit through online sessions for a 6years old boy, but Gwyneth managed to make it fun and attracted my boy attention. Gwyneth had also always given us prompt response and advice to guide my boy through on daily basis. Our heartfelt appreciation to Gwyneth in helping our children to overcome their speech issue. Thank you so much, Gwyneth! We highly recommend Gwyneth for her professionalism in speech therapy.

YY was seen by Gwyneth via Zoom during the COVID period in 2022.  He had a lateral lisp of sounds s, sh and ch.  Mum was diligent in following through with home exercises.

We first noticed our little boy stuttering when he just turned 4 years old. But at that time, we thought this was common for all the young children who just started speaking and believed he would outgrow it. We only sensed something was wrong when he approached 6 years old and still stuttered from time to time with a lot of blockages and repetitions in his speech.

This started to bother him and he would feel helpless and frustrated especially when he was eager to express himself but unable to speak fluently. We searched online and got to know more about stuttering and decided to seek professional opinions. A visit to the fluency clinic at SGH confirmed our fear and we were referred to their former Principal Speech Therapist, Ms. Gwyneth Lee.

Since Ms. Gwyneth has worked in this field for more than 11 years, she is very experienced. A treatment plan was tailor-made for our son after the first consultation. Ms. Gwyneth makes adjustments to the treatment plans weekly based on our boy’s progress. This approach has proven to be very effective; although our son has only started stuttering treatment for 3 months, his severity has been reduced tremendously and he is much more stable in his fluency level.

Besides her professional knowledge, Ms. Gwyneth is very good at dealing with young children and she built rapport with our son easily. With all kinds of toys and well-planned games, her treatment sessions are always interesting and full of fun. As a result, our boy is always looking forward to seeing her and never feels bored in the sessions.

From parents’ perspective, Ms. Gwyneth has been very understanding and has empathized with us right from the beginning. She truly cares about our feelings and always encourages and leads us with positive thinking. She does her job with passion and love. Looking back, we feel so lucky that we have Ms. Gwyneth to guide us, who has made the difficult road much easier.

When my son Anthony was 6 years old we noticed that he was stuttering. We thought that he was just getting excited and wanted to say it quickly. His condition didn’t improve but got worse. We attended a forum on stuttering and learnt that stuttering needed to be treated as young as possible. It cannot be neglected as it might affect the child’s self-esteem as he gets older. It may lead to many other psychological problems as he grows. We then decided to have him assessed by a Speech Therapist.
On our first visit was with Gwyn. Over a short playing and chatting session with Anthony, Gwyn confirmed that he is indeed stuttering. We started a series of consultation and treatment with Gwyn. During each session Gwyn will engage Anthony in various games and activities which will encourage him to speak using the syllable-timed speech. She also taught me how to continue similar sessions at home.
In the course of the treatment sessions, it created additional bonding time for Anthony and myself. I am now able to communicate better with Anthony. Gwyn suggested various ways of asking questions to promote better communication as I had a tendency to ask close-ended questions.
Over the treatment period, Anthony showed signs of improvement and he is now able to speak much better than before. Gwyn is very friendly and she will prepare different games to play with Anthony on each of his visit. Anthony loves to attend the sessions and will look forward to them. Gwyn is very patient and will explain the technique clearly so that I could confidently continue the treatment at home. She also shared with me some parenting skills so that I could apply them on my 3 young children.
Thank you Gwyn for your guidance and patience. We enjoyed our sessions with you and we are glad that we came forward to seek early treatment. Anthony is now able to speak without stuttering and that has made him a more confident child.

Dawn has been seeing Gwyneth for stuttering since she was five years old. Dawn is eight years old now and she has improve tremendously under Gwyneth care. Dawn’s stuttering severity was about a 5 (mild-moderate) and we are now at a severity level of 1-2 (no stuttering to very mild stuttering). Gwyneth is knowledgeable about the different treatment approaches for stuttering and she always has great ideas to help Dawn overcome her stuttering. I am so glad that we have her as our therapist!

Joel (age 9) looks forward to Gwyneth’s sessions and to her treasure trove of toys and games. Her kind and reassuring manner, and easy rapport with Joel has resulted a marked improvement in his speech. As a parent, I am also always learning new and better ways from Gwyneth, to engage with him and help him along

Susana was diagnosed with bilateral vocal fold sulcus along with muscle tension dysphonia.  Her case was presented by our therapist Gwyneth Lee at the “Review and discussion on difficult cases” during the MOH HMDP Visiting Expert program hosted by NUH.  Chairing the discussion was the visiting expert, Prof Albert Lincoln Merati, Chief of Laryngology, University of Washington School of Medicine.
Susana is a very motivated patient that has put in a lot of hard work in her voice exercises and has shown improvement in her condition.
I have always had a high pitched, hoarse and small voice, it makes it difficult for people to catch what I say. My ENT doctor, Dr David Lau referred me to Gwyneth for voice therapy.

The first time I came to A Million Things To Say Clinic, I found it is a very cozy and homey place.

My first impression of Gwyneth was that she carried herself very professionally. She is caring and attentive to her patients. She has a rich and vast experience. She is very passionate and does her work wholeheartedly. She puts her thoughts in giving the best method of therapy for her patients. She makes her patients feel comfortable and not pressurized during the therapy sessions.

I thank God for giving Gwyneth, a correct person to handle my voice case. I also appreciate how she and Dr Lau complement each other in handling my case. After a few months of therapy, there is a better change of my voice where my friends around me can witness to it. Thanks Gwyneth.

Gwyneth is very friendly and personalises sessions to your needs and speed. She was able to help me progress quickly in voice feminisation therapy.

Jamie L

Jamie had 4 sessions with me.  Through these few sessions, we were able to quickly identify and target areas to feminize her voice.  She was happy with the results and could use it functionally in her work and social environments.

I was referred to Gwyn due to ongoing voice issues after vocal cord surgery. As a teacher, my voice is my most important tool. I felt lost and frustrated when it wasn’t functioning effectively. Gwyn taught and supported me to regain my vocal abilities by methodically working though a wide variety of engaging strategies. She clearly explained the process, anatomical structures and theory behind each. She is knowledgeable, patient and personable and an expert in her field. I am so grateful to Gwyn for helping me regain my confidence in my voice.

– Melissa Z

Gwyneth has been fantastic from my first appointment with her. After some invasive medical treatment and a long period of stress, I was having difficulty with vocal range and fatigue. I was diagnosed with some vocal cord atrophy and with her specialist knowledge Gwyneth gave me the tools to be able to use my voice again to its full potential. I am now so much happier when I sing, can hit the notes I want to and am no longer suffering from debilitating vocal fatigue. Would highly recommend and I’m extremely grateful for all her advice!

– Elisabeth Dunnett

After going through the arduous journey of transitioning from male to female, meeting Gwyneth was a blessing.  She adds the finishing touch to my femininity by giving transgender individuals like me a voice (literally).  Thank you Gwyneth for the warmth and gentle guidance you have given me.

 I know…practice, practice, practice

Shawne

I was referred to Gwyneth by my ENT specialist for chronic laryngitis. Learning how to re-wire my muscle memory to speak in the “correct” way is not easy but Gwyneth is great with going through the recovery step-by-step. Each step is explored thoroughly and practised such that at the end of the day when you piece all the puzzles together, the big picture becomes very clear and it makes sense. Her ability to detect the countless nuances in my voice is uncanny as well.

– Jane Tanmizi

  • Helen, Layla’s Mummy

I am grateful to Gwyneth Lee for helping me along my journey as a transgender person. She has not only imparted workable voice feminisation techniques with great skill and patience but also been completely affirming of my gender identity at every point.”
– Roselle

I developed muscle tension dysphonia after laryngitis. I had completely lost my voice for over a month, and I was filled with a lot of fear of ever getting my voice back again and what that would mean for my future.

Gwyneth is very warm and friendly, and has a genuine dedication to helping her clients. She approached my case with empathy and made it easy for me to feel relaxed. She quickly identified underlying stress and bad habits that worsened my vocal muscle strain and coached me on how to manage it better.

She incorporated my interests and existing habits into my therapy sessions to make the lessons and take-home exercises fun and comfortable. She was also quick to adapt the lessons based on my abilities and progress each session.

Even after the first session, I saw and felt improvement. Now, after five sessions, I have a stronger and healthier voice back. I’m so so grateful to her for not only bringing my voice back but also for giving me a framework to have control over my voice and the skills to protect my vocal health moving forward. I cannot recommend Gwyneth enough!

– Amy

Amy was diagnosed with moderate-severe muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) which was likely stress induced.  She presented with a high-pitched whispery voice.  We worked on breath and voice control in small steps, and she made good progress.  Now, she can converse without strain and has an increased range of volume and pitch.  She has better awareness of good voicing habits and can reduce the recurrence of MTD.

Gweneth has been instrumental in my journey as a transwoman finding my feminine voice. Her professionalism, empathy, and tailored approach created a safe space for exploration. Through personalised exercises and unwavering support, she empowered me to embrace my true voice. I highly recommend Gweneth to anyone on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Thank you, Gweneth, Thank you, Gweneth, for your love for what you do and for helping me find my voice, both literally and figuratively.

Jessica

Jessica had 4 sessions of voice therapy (spread over 4 months). At the start, she had to work through a common challenge of the voice sounding hollow and thin as pitch increased.  We worked towards shaping different components of the voice.  She was able to incorporate practice in the midst of her busy schedule and was able to quickly achieve a balance of vocal pitch, weight and resonance.  She has given permission for her speech samples to be presented here.

Baseline voice at start of GAVT.  86hz

Mid-treatment voice. 238hz. A nice balance of pitch and resonance

I would highly recommend Gwyneth to those looking for support and guidance in feminizing their voice (or voice therapy in general).
She is very supportive and caring, and made me feel comfortable and at ease from our first meeting. The sessions were fun and engaging; she was encouraging with her compliments and constructive with with her criticism. The smile she gave when things were going well made all the effort worthwhile.
I left every session impressed with how generous she was with her time, care, and expertise. I feel very fortunate to have met her when I did during my transition.

In terms of results, she demonstrated a very effective knowledge of the field leaving me very pleased; I’m gendered correctly on the phone very reliably and have no anxiety with how my voice might be perceived when holding conversations in person. I’ve recently switched jobs and at no point during the several rounds of interviews did I have to spend any significant effort in achieving the voice I wanted, so thank you Gwyneth for giving me to tools to do this.

Ellie saw me for 13 sessions.  I’m glad she achieved a consistent voice in public.  She is now exploring her singing voice in both the lower and upper register

After a long period of hoarseness and losing my voice, I became worried I would become mute.  My GP referred me to the Ear Nose and Throat doctor (ENT) to assess the health of my vocal cords and throat.  The ENT, Dr David Lau found no growth that would explain the voice quality I was presenting with.  He then recommended me to see Gwyneth for further vocal assessment.

Despite my voice being so hoarse, coupled with a lot of breaks, Gwyneth felt she could help me improve my voice quality after the initial assessment. In just 12 weeks I have learnt how I am using my voice wrongly and the vocal tension brought about this hoarseness.  I have learnt how to make my voice better through simple exercises and vocal technique.  I have become aware of the bad habits I had in using my voice and am now able to achieve a better quality of voice than I ever thought possible.

I have enjoyed the time spent with Gwyneth. She is a very warm person and I feel that she genuinely cares for the people she works with. She is committed to making their vocal life better.  I have been very happy with how my sessions have gone and made a friend along the way.  I would recommend Gwyneth to others experiencing vocal problems like I was having.

My voice has always been very deep and masculine, so I was quite worried about whether I would be able to achieve a feminine voice. But 6 months later I managed to achieve a female sounding voice. Gwyneth patiently taught me how to raise my pitch and improve my resonance throughout our sessions and provided constant encouragement which help me feel less embarrassed about the voices I make. Thank you ! I’m glad I decided to start on voice therapy 😊
Emilia

Well done Emilia!  She has consented for the following 2 audio clips to be posted on the website.  She continues to check in with Gwyneth from time to time.

We are so glad to have found Gwyneth as speech therapist for Jeriel. Gwyneth has been very professional and skilful in teaching him the techniques to use his voice correctly. There is really quite a bit of unlearning as well as learning to be done but Gwyneth has been guiding him patiently and keeping the sessions engaging. I am happy with the progress that Jeriel has made with her help!

– Elaine Thng, mother of Jeriel Tan (12 years old)

Gwyneth gave me a new voice to start a new chapter in my life. She is very patient with various problems I face with my voice. She prescribes tailored practices for my voice. For me, this is extremely important as I wanted to attain a convincing female voice as soon as possible, which might take years to achieve if I just follow online video guides. The lessons are enjoyable and she always goes the extra mile to make sure I understand the important points in each lesson.

– Lynn

Lynn underwent voice feminisation therapy. She received a total of 20 hrs of treatment stretched across weekly and fortnightly sessions. She also had a mixture of in-clinic and telepractice sessions via ZOOM.
She is now on monthly/bimonthly reviews to ensure the calibration and health of her voice.
Through the session, Lynn has learnt how to make fine adjustments to her voice and has confidence in using her voice at work, in social situations and with her loved ones. Well done Lynn!
She has kindly allowed sample recordings of her voice pre and post treatment.

I was referred to Gwyn by my ENT doctor after noticing strain in the voice box. It’s been a great journey of learning and discovery about what my throat and voice can do. Sessions with Gwyn are relaxing and kind of fun. We explored different ways of improving my voice. These included different ways of warming up, finding optimal projection, releasing tension in the voice box and altering the position of the tongue to find the most clear voice.
Gwyn has always been very encouraging and patient. When I first came to her, I had a croaky voice and was lost to how my voice was going to survive as a teacher. I now know how to better control my voice and how to better project it in class. I see an improvement in my voice even when I have a busy day at school
– Yvonne Liew

I spent many months reading and trying to feminise my voice on my own, to very little effect. After a year with Gwyneth, I wished that I had started voice feminisation with her sooner. Gwyneth was incredibly flexible and understanding in my limitations as an nsf [National Service Fulltime] and gladly worked around it and my lack of private space to practice. Frankly, things will get hard and you will be frustrated, but stick with it, Gwyneth will patiently and consistently try to find something that works for you and guide you through it.

It’s been a breath of life, feeling that my voice is finally my own and that I can present myself as I am. Having friends rave and be in awe at how good and natural your voice sounds is one of the best feelings in the world.

– Laura

Laura underwent voice feminisation therapy with me.  We worked on voice conditioning, pitch, and more importantly, resonance/register adjustments at her targeted training pitch.  Some sessions were also done via telepractice (Zoom).  Through time, she developed a better awareness of her voice and was able to monitor it well.  It is very satisfying when a patient undergoing voice feminisation can finally identify with her voice.

She has very kindly allowed a voice sample of her reading “The Game”.  Have a listen to the pre and post treatment examples!

Well Done Laura!
